Founder Highlight: Living with Intention
Brenda Beckmann,
Founder of Vigor Pilates
As I wrap up the construction phase and build out of Vigor Pilates, and begin to move into “launch mode” for my business, I find myself reflecting on how far I’ve come. One actionable step after the other, amid navigating my personal life, motherhood, and all the intricacies of the modern human experience, have led to the creation of something I wholeheartedly believe in. I feel a mix of excitement, anticipation, and responsibility as I prepare to open the doors to a space that represents not just a studio, but a vision brought to life– a vision rooted in intention and the belief that lasting strength and well-being come from consistency, movement, and staying connected to oneself.
In life and business, I make it my personal responsibility to live with intention. It’s necessary if I want to stay connected to different parts of my life that give it meaning. It is the art of aligning your daily actions with your values, priorities and purpose. It’s moving through life deliberately rather than reactively- being guided by clarity, not external expectations. All this, I admit, can sound like new-age spiritualism that often feels grounded in superficiality and a deflection of reality, and is more rooted in consumerism. I get it, and I’m there with you. However, my journey of personal growth has softened these stances, teaching me to eliminate any preconceptions and focus on my reality and how it manifests in the lives of those around me.
For me, intention is rooted in boundaries. When you lean into your inner voice with softness and no judgment, you often begin to discover your true wants, desires, and intentions, which help you define those boundaries clearly. It’s a thought framework that we often lose in adulthood, and sometimes need a little help to reconnect with. Classical Pilates has helped me bridge the connection between my mind and my body.
Pilates is a consistent program with repetitive exercises. Joseph Pilates quoted, “Pilates is the complete coordination of the mind, body, and spirit.” in his book, Return to Life. It involves breathing and deep, concentrated movement that forces you to connect with yourself. It is based on six movement principles, one of which includes concentration. To concentrate, one must become aware, and when you are aware, change will occur.
At Vigor Pilates, that looks like intelligent movement. It’s a space where people can reconnect with the wisdom of their own body, where we return to the root of the method — not diluted, not flashy — but refined, intelligent, and life-affirming. Where every movement is an opportunity to listen, align, and choose how we live.
I look forward to meeting you in one of our small group classes or private sessions, and leading you through intentional movement and self-discovery that aligns with your personal goals.
